Immerse Yourself in Guatemalan Life
A great way for students to immerse themselves in Guatemalan life is by staying in one of our homestays during their studies. Staying with a Guatemalan host will allow you to learn first-hand about Guatemalan life and practice your Spanish outside the school environment.
What Our Homestays Offer
Our hosts provide students with a private room, three meals a day for all days of the week (including Sunday) and an enjoyable, interesting experience. They can accommodate vegetarians, vegans and students with food allergies. (However, for students with very strict diets or severe food allergies we could recommend independent accommodation so they have more control over ingredients). All the hosts who team up with Utatlan Utatlan are located 5 to 10 minutes walk from the school, in Zone 1 of the city.
Shared Living Arrangements and Amenities
In busy periods families will often have more than one student staying with them (either from Utatlan or a student or volunteer from elsewhere), but all hosts encourage only Spanish to be spoken in the house. If you would like to be the only student in the house, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you in a homestay with availability for one person or couple. Please note, that these are basic Guatemalan homes, so bathrooms are always shared. All the homestays have basic wifi.
Pricing and Flexibility for Your Homestay Experience
The price for the homestay is Q560.00 per week, calculated from Sunday noon to Sunday noon. Most students stay with the same host, but you are more than welcome to change hosts every week to get to know other homes and customs. You can start your homestay any day of the week, even if you haven’t yet started classes. If you stay with your host for more or less than 7 nights, we will discount or add Q80.00 per night. Couples who stay in a homestay can stay together, but they pay the same amount per person as the money goes principally to food costs. Students pay for their homestay together with their tuition fee on Mondays.
