At Utatlan we want to offer you the best experience you can get in Guatemala. It is important to us that you make the most of your time and if you are looking for volunteer work that you find the project that best suits you and one where you will be able to make a real difference.
We can suggest some short term project options here in Xela but we don’t pretend to know everything about the many volunteering options available all over the country, for that reason we work closely with the non-profit organization EntreMundos, widely regarded here as the experts in connecting volunteers to appropriate and deserving projects. We can make you a personal appointment with Entremundos’ volunteer advisor who will help you find the best fit from over 100 partner organizations. They also help you contact the organizations to set up a time to visit and get to know the project.
When considering volunteer work, please bear in mind that EntreMundos will do their best to find you a volunteer job that suits your skills and where you will be of most use, but many placements ask for a minimum time commitment of 1 month, and some request a minimum level of Spanish ability, so a recommended option would be to study first and then commit yourself to volunteering afterwards (using your improved Spanish skills!).
EntreMundos not only run the volunteer placement service, but also offer training courses for local community groups and NGOs, and publish a free bilingual development and human rights magazine.
