Utatlan was founded in 1990 with the mission to provide high-quality Spanish tuition and a unique cultural experience in Guatemala. As a small school, we pride ourselves on delivering a personalized service to each of our students. We have a small staff team who you will get to know well, and we want you to feel part of the family. We’re here to support you not only with excellent Spanish instruction and weekly activities but also with any questions about life in Guatemala and guidance for your travel plans.

The Meaning Behind Utatlan
What does Utatlan mean? Our school’s name is inspired by the last major city of the Maya-Quiche kingdom, located in the department of Quiche, now a remarkable archaeological site that showcases Guatemala’s rich heritage. Our logo features a Mayan symbol called a nahual, which represents the energy or spirit associated with days in the Mayan calendar. Our symbol, No’j, stands for knowledge and wisdom.
